Elegance and sophistication emerge from a mix of jazz, funky, soul and hip-hop on which Oscar Jerome’s sound is built. A young career that already boasts collaborations with the likes of Ezra Collective and Kamasi Washington. His is a musical genius open to experimentation and contamination with which he enchants his audience.
Although Jerome now lives in London, he is originally from Norwich. It was there that he had his first musical experiences as a solo artist and with big bands. His creative process takes many forms, but usually begins with a burst of creativity that is then elaborated and refined over time.
Oscar Jerome hibernated to make what became ‘The Spoon’, his second album. He found himself alone in Berlin in the midst of the covid pandemic, at a crossroads in his life, in need of space and time to reflect on how to move forward in a healthy way. According to Jerome, this is where many of the tracks that make up ‘The Spoon’ came from, a laconic work steeped in melodic melancholy in which so much interiority can be found.
Jerome moves from a whisper to a scream throughout the album, and is as ready to talk about his feelings of depression as he is to rail against the injustices of his country.
