Federica Michisanti’s new project is the result of a journey that began with her winning the Top Jazz award as the best new Italian talent and the SIAE special prize for original compositional research, which led her to guide an ensemble made up of her trio and an exceptional guest, Louis Sclavis, an extraordinary and virtuous musician and notable composer, for two consecutive years.
They are thus playing together for the third consecutive year, confirming the esteem that the French artist has shown Michisanti and his compositions on previous occasions.
The new trio is made up of Salvatore Maiore on cello, a double bass player, cellist and one of the most active composers in Italy, and Emanuele Maniscalco on drums, a multi-instrumentalist and composer who has gravitated around jazz and pop in creative and experimental formations for almost two decades.
The quartet plays Michisanti’s compositions, which maintain a sonority that draws on European cultured music and avant-garde jazz, leaving plenty of room for extemporary improvisation and enriched by the percussive contribution of the drums.
