A repertoire that retraces the American songbook, the interpretation of timeless melodies with a characteristic sonority devoid of harmonic instruments, reminiscent of Californian cool jazz and made famous by saxophonist Gerry Mulligan’s quartet.
Swing, contrapuntal style, original arrangements and improvisation are the main ingredients that characterise the Creative Jazz Quartet’s interpretation of the most famous standards in jazz history.
The careful choice of repertoire brings to mind the most renowned musicians, from Louis Armstrong to Stan Getz. There is no shortage of explorations of the ‘underground’ jazz scene of the 1950s and 1960s with artists such as Gigi Gryce, Sonny Clark and Freddie Red, availing ourselves, for some projects, of the artistic collaboration of New York saxophonist Chris Byars as arranger and ‘guest soloist’.
