Described by NPR as “a revolutionary figure capable of holding high the torch of infectious groove and political songwriting through his music” Seun Kuti has skillfully warped the boundaries of Afrobeat in its most traditional conception.
The son of afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, Seun has spent most of his life preserving and spreading his father’s musical and political legacy. His musical career began at the age of 12 when he joined his father’s musical universe as an Egypt 80s saxophonist and percussionist. After becoming its leader, he took shows around the world based as much on improvisation as on more technical composition, without ever losing sight of the political aspect that is fundamental to his music. On Dec. 9, 2022, he released “African Dreams,” an EP featuring three remixes of tracks from “Black Times”, their 2018 Grammy-nominated album.
