VelvEtnoJazz has always been Romeo Velluto’s signature project. Since 2009, he has been composing music that weaves folk with jazz, blending Balkan sounds with Latin and broader Afro-American influences. Over the years, the project has produced two albums and featured at prestigious festivals and venues, including Ronnie Scott’s in London, the Blue Note in London, and the Tuscia Jazz Festival. Many notable contemporary jazz musicians have passed through the group’s ranks, including Yuri Golubev and Luca Segala. Currently, the lineup is recording a new album in a trio format featuring Stefano Lecchi on drums and Luca Pissavini on electric bass. Lecchi, a highly active drummer with prominent collaborations including Ferdinando Faraò’s Archipel Orchestra, has 7 albums to his name and has performed at numerous festivals, including Umbria Jazz. Pissavini, a double bassist, cellist, violist, and electric bassist with a passion for electronics and acousmatic music, works in theater and performs across jazz, free improvisation, avant-garde singer-songwriter projects, progressive rock, impro-rock, and contemporary music.
