Shabaka Hutchings is surely the most representative voice of the new British scene, the one who has made jazz “cool again” among the new generation, as Rolling Stone wrote a few years ago. The soul of numerous groups, from the electro-jazz of Comet is Coming to the Afro funk of Sons of Kemet or the Afrofuturism of Shabaka and The Ancestors, he boasts prominent collaborations across the Atlantic with Makaya McCraven and Kamasi Washington. Hutchings’ feverish artistry embraces the spellbinding vocal melodies and dancing riffs of Moroccan singer and composer Majid Bekkas, floating on the complex, energetic and infectious swing of Hamid Drake.
