With his historic quintet, founded in 1984, Paolo Fresu pays tribute to the immense legacy of Miles Davis. “Elevator to the Gallows“ is a special project dedicated to the famous soundtrack composed by the American trumpeter for Louis Malle’s acclaimed 1958 film noir of the same name. The Paolo Fresu Quintet’s reinterpretation preserves the language and aesthetics of the original, enriching them with new compositional and improvisational elements that broaden its perspective without betraying its suspended, lyrical, and cinematic atmosphere. Performed live in perfect synchronization with the film screening, the music accompanies the visuals and narrative in an intense dialogue between jazz and cinema, offering the audience a deeply evocative experience.
