JAZZMI torna a Milano per raccontare l’universo del jazz

Would you have imagined a soldier in love singing a blues version of Oje vita, oje vita mia ? Or that the charming Brigida to whom the song A’ tazza ‘e cafè is dedicated may not be from Naples, but from Jamaica? All of this, and much more, is happening as a result of Neapolitan Contamination.

The NeaCo’ project, acronym of Neapolitan Contamination, but also of νέα κοινὴ, Nèa Koinè, a new language common to different cultures and peoples, reproduces this dynamic with the Neapolitan Song, proposing its most famous songs in a new and very special way. The listener is led on a journey through the continents and musical styles, from Europe to the Middle East, to Central Africa, to North America and its gospel, blues, jazz and funky, to the Central American  calypso, reggae, rumba, and then down to the Argentine tango.
Contamination implies a fruitful contact and it is an engine of civilization, because we learn more and more from those who are “other than themselves” than from our own fellows. The audience is stimulated, by music and entertainment, to explore ‘inside’ each song, to find a ‘seed of contamination’, an element of globalization, of universality, capable of transposing the piece of music into an anthropological, geographical, cultural, ideal context entirely different. The song evolves and transforms genetically, while substantially respecting the original text and message. It’s a way to honor a glorious evolutionary past, looking to its future.
