“Like a blossom emerging from between the floorboards of a slaughterhouse, Moor Mother’s musicis an act of transcending a violent, intolerable present.” – The Fader

On the JAZZMI stage, Moor Mother will present excerpts from The Great Bailout, in which imageryof spectacular beauty is mixed with horrific scenarios. Dreams and traumatic nightmares pervadeher music, inviting her audience to dwell on themes concerning the condition of slavery and itsconsequences. Camae Ayewa (Moor Mother) is an international touring musician, poet, visual artist, and Professor of Composition at the USC Thornton School of Music. Through the lens and practiceof Black Quantum Futurism, the art she makes is a statement for the future, as well as a way tohonor the present and its historic connections to a multitude of past realities and future outcomes. Her work seeks to inspire practical techniques of vision and agency against a foreverexpanding re-conquering of land, housing, and health in Black communities. She will be performing pieces fromher most recent album, The Great Bailout.
