Originally from Yorkshire, Emma-Jean began her musical journey at primary school and by the age of 13 was first cornet in a local brass band.
Bandleader, multi-instrumentalist and producer, she now lives in south-east London and embodies a spiritual and dancefloor vision of jazz that breaks slightly from the broader UK scene. Yellow is a further step into a fresh and distinct space. Its 14 tracks flourish with brass and strings, choral segments and ecstatic chanting, drawing bright lines between 70s jazz fusion and P-funk, the cosmic invocations of Sun Ra and Alice Coltrane and the splendid orchestration of the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds.
