It takes a good, healthy dose of madness to decide to reinterpret or even simply compare yourself to John Coltrane’s masterpiece. Unless you suffer from a particularly virulent form of megalomania…God willing (just to stay on topic…) this is not the case of Dimitri Grechi Espinoza and his traveling companions, Aziz Şenol Filiz on ney and bendir and Guido Zorn on double bass, who decide to start from “A Love Supreme” to understand what this music still has to say to us, what strings it can still make vibrate within us and how much the essence of this music continues to produce joy and great spiritual richness. In doing so, they decide to take the risk of eliminating one of the main characteristics of “A Love Supreme”: that of being a music that is simultaneously immanent and transcendent, at the same time, in every breath of it. It follows that this music is absolutely radical and in this it recovers its immanence, and it is here, in this understanding of the physical and materialist essence of the spirit, that we return to overcome it to the dialectic between immanence and transcendence.
