“Claudio Fasoli NeXt 4et – ANATOMY OF A JAZZ QUARTET” – Directed by Alberto Nacci
ANATOMY OF A JAZZ QUARTET is a documentary film by Alberto Nacci dedicated to Claudio Fasoli, one of the most authoritative European jazz musicians, and his NeXt 4et, winner of the 2021 Top Jazz Referendum by Musica Jazz for Best Album of the Year. Born from a long-standing relationship between the director and the musician, the film weaves together a live studio concert, recorded on May 15, 2025, with interviews of the quartet members, who share the artistic and human dynamics experienced before, during, and after the performance. Through music, words, glances, and silences, the documentary explores Fasoli’s musical language and the value of the relationship among the musicians—an essential element in making every jazz concert an unrepeatable experience. The work thus takes on the character of an anthropological investigation into the creative process of one of the most significant groups in contemporary Italian jazz. The docufilm concludes with the testimony of Livio Testa, who retraces Fasoli’s artistic journey and recalls his historic participation in the Clusone Jazz Festival.
