JAZZMI torna a Milano per raccontare l’universo del jazz

Conservatorio di Milano - Sala Verdi

Via Conservatorio, 12, 20122 Milano MI, Italia

A living legend deserves to be revered on principle, but Archie Shepp, at 82, can still earn his applause onstage. A radical and disturbing musician in the 60s, sound and fury of free jazz, a road companion of John Coltrane and Cecil Taylor, a feared agitator; then a bandleader, a playwright, a teacher and finally a relaxed veteran who has seen and played it all.
Shepp is still an unrivalled saxophone star. His solos burn with the power of black music, a rich sound even when in falsetto, moving listeners to tears and binding the angels and demons of life, the sweetness and screeching of history. At the drums of his quartet we find Steve McCraven, another hero of free jazz, who has played with Shepp for more than twenty years.
