Ibibio Sound Machine release their sixth album, Chopping Mountain, via Merge Records. Born out of live jam sessions, rhythmic experimentation, and instinctive chemistry, Chopping Mountain captures the band at their most cohesive and musically daring. From the euphoric disco drive of “When You Want to Dance” to the spiritual intensity of “Return to Sender”, the album is dynamic, expansive, and thrilling—another bold step forward for a group that has always refused to stand still.
At its core is the unmistakable presence of Eno Williams, a charismatic, one-of-a-kind frontwoman whose call to the dance floor and to a better tomorrow is impossible to resist. Surrounding her, Max Grunhard (saxophone, keyboards), Alfred Bannerman (guitar), PK Ambrose (bass, keyboards), Joseph Amoako (drums), Afla Sackey (percussion), Scott Bayliss (trumpet, keyboards), and Tony Hayden (trombone, synth) form a tight-knit ensemble whose synergy shapes the band’s distinctive and ever-evolving sound.
