The “Dixie Blue Blowers” rediscover the pleasure of “hot jazz” by retracing the discography of the 1920s and performing a concert repertoire that features both famous and lesser-known tracks from the finest “white” jazz tradition. Their music ranges from pieces by orchestras like “Miff Mole’s Little Molers,” passing through lesser-known ensembles such as the “Six Hottentots” or the “Charleston Seven,” all the way to Hoagy Carmichael’s “Pals” and many of the groups featuring the legendary Davenport cornetist Bix Beiderbecke.
Led by Italy’s leading expert in Hot Jazz, Mauro L. Porro—who was recently awarded the honor of “Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic” for his contribution to spreading Early Jazz across the country—the “Dixie Blue Blowers” aim to recreate the original essence of early 20th-century music through painstaking transcriptions from 78 rpm records and the use of period instruments, avoiding the cliché, sentimental mannerism so often presented to audiences today.
