This year saw the release of Peppe Santangelo’s fifth discography, Plays Wayne Shorter, which is also the first release of Asle Music Records, the Sicilian saxophonist’s record label.
Wayne Shorter was a unique phenomenon in the evolution of modern jazz. There are many reasons for this: Shorter possessed an innate ability to compose, rarely using standards or material by others unless they perfectly matched the concept of the moment; he explored all the possibilities offered by each chord, making his music deja-vu-free; technically, he displayed the elegance of Lester Young, the power of Sonny Rollins and the experimentation of John Coltrane, creating an unmistakably personal language.
