Musical Toys is Luca Segala’s experiment: a concert in which the saxophonist, supported by samples prepared for the occasion, will put himself to the test to tackle an entire concert as a solo duo with a drummer.
The collaborations with Fabrizio Carriero, the discovery of his unusual drumming, rooted in the contemporary, dense with rap styles, funky, drum and bass, jazz, but always under the banner of free reinvention, have definitely influenced Luca Segala’s compositions.
The saxophonist has generated electronic samples that characterise four of the compositions that will be presented, not as a base on which to play, but as suggestions that intervene to create the arrangement of the pieces. The samples will be launched during the performance through the use of a pad in an extemporaneous manner.
