“The Paradox” is the electro-jazz project of legendary Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills and French keyboardist of Guyanese origin Jean-Phi Dary. The duo was born during the “Tomorrow Comes The Harvest” tour with Tony Allen. Jeff and Jean-Phi would have short jam sessions while waiting for the messiah of afrobeat to come on stage.
Deeply inhabited by science fiction, DJ, producer and artist Jeff Mills adopts its ideas, concepts, stories and aesthetics. His music embodies the future while respecting the past and staying in the present. When he founded his record label Axis in 1992, Mills took the rotating principle of the solar system as his aesthetic, concept and model for creativity. His work explores futuristic and science fiction themes.
Jean-Phi Dary is a French artist of Guyanese origin. He appreciates Afro-Cuban and Kompa music, jazz, reggae and funk. Starting with the organ, he then played bass in a Caribbean orchestra. Later, the multi-instrumentalist developed a passion for the keyboard and piano. A career spanning decades has led him to play afrobeat, jazz, soul and a plethora of other genres contributing to more than twenty albums.
