“I always knew that music was my language. And that music would introduce me to the world, and lead me to discover new territories, because mine has always been the language of the earth and the sky.” Gilberto Gil’s carnival comes to JAZZMI for the grand finale of a legendary career.

Gilberto Gil’s musical work began in the 1950s on the inspiration of Luis Gonzaga and the religious processions of his Brazilian homeland. The arrival of bossa nova and the subsequent meeting with Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethania led Gil to experiment with new sounds, becoming one of the founding fathers of Musica Popular Brasilera. A well-rounded artist who boasts the release of more than 50 albums and millions of records sold worldwide, in addition to the countless awards he has received including nine Grammy Awards. Master of a unique musical language that he has skill fully blended with pop, rock and jazz, Gilberto Gil is preparing to close a musical epic that began in 1978 in Montreaux
