The Laudario di Cortona is the most ancient collection of vernacular Italian music, and the only surviving one from the 13th century. From an idea of violinist Paolo Franceschini, Paolo Fresu has arranged and orchestrated a jazz version of 13 of the 66 laudi included in this ancient document. The result is Altissima Luce, a concert performed for the first time in Milan at JAZZMI: Daniele Di Bonaventura plays the bandoneòn, Marco Bardoscia the double bass, and Michele Rabbia the drums, with the accompainment of the Orchestra da Camera di Perugia and the Armonioso Incanto vocal group. A testimony of popular devotion that manages to touch even the most world-weary of modern hearts.
