IN COLLABORATION WITH NAO UAO

Makaya McCraven is a prolific drummer, composer and producer.
His latest album, In These Times, is the triumphant finale to a project spanning more than 7 years.

It is a preminent addition to his already acclaimed and extensive discography, and it’s the album he’s been striving to make since he began recording records.

Born in Paris in 1983 to a Hungarian mother (singer and flutist Ágnes Zsigmondi) and an African-American father (Jazz drummer Stephen McCraven), Makaya grew up in the vibrant Northampton, Massachusetts, area where his father shared stages and sessions with saxophonist and ethnomusicologist Marion Brown, multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef and saxophonist Archie Shepp, as well as a long line of African Gnawa musicians.

This mixing of genres, to which he has become accustomed since childhood, defines his mood, a true folk philosophy within the “jazz scheme.”
