"The human voice is my ideal," says Jan Garbarek and there is hardly a saxophonist who has come so close to this ideal as the musician from Norway. It is the contrast between the lyrical, poetic, simplicity and the intensity of free improvisation with other musicians, which makes Jan Garbarek's art.
The artists who accompany him contribute to his own way: on the piano the long-time companion Rainer Brüninghaus, Trilok Gurtu, the wild drummer from India to the Percussions and the Brazilian Yuri Daniel on the bass. Garbarek is a musical circumnavigator of the world who catches all the winds. Whoever listens to him can feel what touches him and what gives him the breath that brings the sounds to us.
"The utopia of infinite breathing and natural harmony drives Garbarek's music, it does not sweat; it is cheerful in the sense of the word which comes from Greek aither, and clear skies, pure air."
