After a three-year hiatus, dEUS front man Tom Barman, returns with his jazz-rock-infused, genre-bending side project, TaxiWars, and new single ‘Sharp Practice’, released 7th June via Sdban Ultra. A deeply impulsive, energetic groove that steams jazz with late eighties hip-hop beats, the single is taken from the band’s upcoming album ‘Artificial Horizon’, released later this year.
An intensive collaboration between Barman, saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierre, TaxiWars are a mix of lyricism, poetry and jazz with rock intensity. This is a band with a deep knowledge of the history of jazz music, and a love for the driving jazz of the early sixties on the Impulse! label. The music of Pharaoh Sanders, Archie Shepp, and Charles Mingus – full of swing, pulse, and the urge to break out of the genre’s confinements.
