Just like Flaubert, Chet Baker sang of fire with his arm inside the brazier. And yet he managed to give his own private hell a flawless shape, clearness, balance and harmony. Ever since the 1950s, the disproportionate gods of music decided that the time of Chet should be our time as well, and that our Italy made of roadside reastaurants and homemade jazz should be lit by his celestial melodies. Today, his melody and light come alive in Tempo di Chet, a theatrical, musical and recording project that Paolo Fresu, together with Dino Rubino and Marco Bardoscia, devoted to this great musician. Rather than reinterpreting Chet, however, this show lays his heart bare in a concert that reveal the depth and the mysterious grace of a life hounded by music.
The show will be followed by a screening of Chet is back – Chet Baker in Italia, a documentary by Nello Correale that narrates the years that Baker spent in Italy as well as his novelesque life and legitimate legend.
