Thirty years ago Jaco Pastorius, the greatest jazz-rock bassist of all time, tragically disappeared. A virtuoso soloist, he influenced a whole generation of musicians and remains today an exceptional artist and an absolute reference.
Biréli Lagrène, who has shared the stage and participated in several Jaco’s albums, wanted to revive his memory by reviving, exclusively on fretless electric bass, the major tracks of Jaco’s career with Jean-Yves Jung, Jean-Marc Robin and Franck Wolf. The repertoire will include titles from The Birthday Concert, Twins, Invitation, World of Mouth and some recorded during her participation with Weather Report.
Biréli Lagrène’s career began very early and for long time he was known as a child prodigy. At the age of seven he improvised on the songs of Django Reinhardt. When he was still a teenager he was discovered by Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucía and John McLaughlin. During his career he has performed alongside jazz giants, such as Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Gil Evans and Charlie Haden and Stanley Jordan.
