Four generations of musicians perform in this all-star ensemble, from old golden-age masters to a phenomenal 13-year-old at the timbales. del Buena Vista Social Club’s musical director Juan De Marcos González dreamed of creating an ensemble worthy of performing the heroic soneros from the 40s and 50s: so he created the All Star, today a majestic musical machine celebrating with each performance the unparalleled richness of Cuban music.
Danzón, mozambique, son montuno, guaguancó, mambo, guajíra, timba and rumba are played in contemporary arrangements combining exuberance with impeccable technique. Legend has it that on the All Stars’ first rehearsal, the whole Cuban musical scene gathered to hear them play. By the second rehearsal, the rest of the population had joined in as well.
